ABOUT TUGG

The purpose of the Toronto Ukrainian Genealogy Group (TUGG) is to promote and preserve our Ukrainian heritage whether ethnically Ukrainian or from Ukrainian territory through educational methods.TUGG is a non-profit cultural and educationa1 organization consisting of persons interested in tracing their ancestors, locating missing relatives, finding the origin and meaning of their surnames, locating an ancestors' coat-of-arms, and gaining an overall knowledge of Ukrainian genealogy, heraldry, culture, ethnicity , history and geography,

The Objectives of TUGG are to:

  • provide lectures, guidance, assistance and instructions free of charge to its members and, for a fee, to non-members.
  • undertake research in the fields of Ukrainian genealogy and heraldry and, upon completion of such research, make it known to the public.
  • assemble, keep up-to-date, and maintain a library of Ukrainian genealogy, heraldry and related publications.
  • publish materials about Ukrainian genealogy, heraldry and related subject matter.
  • accept and preserve Ukrainian family histories, genealogies and coats-of-arms donated by individua1s or institutions in an archival safe environment.
  • maintain an archival system, which contains and preserves oral histories, documents, photographs, memorabilia and other related historical objects in an archival safe environment.
  • network with other genealogy groups.
  • promote interest, among young Canadians of Ukrainian ancestry, of their cultural roots.
  • promote that there be courses in genealogy and heraldry in secondary school programs and post-secondary school programs.
  • promote TUGG within various Ukrainian organizations.
